Porters Neck Country Club to Host the 20th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship, September 6-8

WEST END, NC -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 20th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship will be played at Wilmington’s Porters Neck Country Club on September 6-8.

The championship is comprised of 54-holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 30th birthday by September 6, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 5.4.

Porters Neck Country Club is a 1991 Tom Fazio tree-lined design that also can be affected by ocean breezes.

Scott Harvey of Greensboro, 2012 champion, returns to defend his title won at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount.

The championship will play at 6,800 yards with a par of 72. Merchandise prizes are awarded to the top 30 finishers at the championship proper and to the medalist at each qualifying site. Champion receives a trophy, merchandise from host club and possession of the P.J. Boatwright Trophy for the ensuing year.

Previous CGA championships hosted by Porters Neck Country Club include the 1998 North Carolina Amateur, 2010 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball and 2011 Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball.
