47th Carolinas Father-Son and 16th Carolinas Parent-Child Championships take place on Friday

West End, NC (7/25/13) – The 47th Carolinas Father-Son and the 16th Carolinas Parent-Child Championships will take place on Friday, July 26 at five Pinehurst, NC area courses. A popularly attended event, the Father-Son and Parent-Child championships have become a tradition for many teams. The Father-Son Championship has many divisions extending from 13 & Under, Super Senior, Open (Pro-Am), and Amateur to allow for play in almost every age and skill group.

The championships are contested at 18 holes of modified alternate shot. Each team plays alternate shot except that both team members hit from each tee and then select the ball to be played for the remainder of the hole (modified alternate shot). A team must complete the hole with the ball selected.

For the Father-Son Championship, entry is open to any team comprised of a father and son, stepfather and stepson, or grandfather and grandson or a similar combination of in-laws. At least one member of each team must be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas, be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA), have a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club.

For the Parent-Child Championship, entry is open to any team comprised of a parent and child, in any gender combination excluding male-male. Step-parents, grandparents and in-laws are allowed. At least one member of each team must be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas, be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA), have a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club.

There are 244 Father-Son teams and the 25 Parent-Child teams.
