The 43rd Carolinas Mid-Amateur had a record 628 entries attempting to qualify for play in the event. Those who made it to the championship were tested with various conditions throughout the tournament. Sam Jackson (West Columbia, SC) took the hardware home on the strength of an incredible nine under second round, giving him an insurmountable lead that the field couldn't quite close.

Jackson started the final round six shots in the lead at -14, and after a birdie on six had him on track, he was able to hold off some late pushes from the competition. William Buchanan (Greensboro, NC) made things interesting on the back nine, making birdies on 10, 11, 12, 14, and an eagle on 15 to close the gap to 1 stroke. Unfortunately, a bogey by Buchanan on 16 killed his momentum, and Jackson scrambled on 17 to make par, and a made birdie on the eighteenth to win by two at -17 (199 total).

"The win means a lot, yesterday (round 2) tied my lowest score ever in any tournament golf, and today I felt the nerves all day long, but the birdies on 12 and 13 settled me down a bit," said Jackson. "Watching Bill (Buchanan) make a run on the back nine at me was nerve-racking enough, so it put a lot of pressure on things which was good to keep me in the game all afternoon," added Jackson.

Buchanan ultimately finished in second at -15 (201 total). Nathan Stamey (Candler, NC) and Austin Langdale (Easley, SC) tied for third with -12 (204 total) finishes.

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of The Cliffs at Mountain Park, especially President of the Cliffs Rob Duckett, General Manager Paige Frazier, and Course Superintendent Jed Fedor for their hospitality in hosting the 43rd Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship.
