Greyish skies turned to blue as the heat and the play turned up in the final round of the 18th Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship from Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. Even with some very strong competition, Emily Mathews (Mebane, NC) managed to capture her second title at this tournament with back-to-back stellar 70's.

"It's a little more special this time just because it's my last junior CGA tournament, and it's a blessing to go out with a win in Vicki's tournament," said Mathews. "She's been incredible to me my entire junior career."

The soon-to-be Virginia Tech Hokie fired a four-under (140 total) on the strength of consistent play, including four birdies in Sunday's round to come from behind on day one leader Saia Rampersaud (Durham, NC), who finished tied for second with Jenna Kim (Raleigh, NC), who quietly had a strong back nine including birdies on 16 and 17.

"I'm very excited to start college, just three and a half months away, I could not be more excited," added Mathews." She also compared the two different titles at this event. "There were fewer drivers off the tee, more three irons, and playing strategically around the course."

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of Pine Island Country Club, especially Head Professional Sam Bryant and Course Superintendent Jim Schram, for their hospitality in hosting the 18th Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship. We are thankful for their support in hosting this event for the last 17 years.
