CONOVER, N.C. (Aug. 4, 2025) Maya Beasley of Pinehurst, N.C. secured her place in CGA history on Saturday with a commanding 4 & 3 win over Ella Spence of Waxhaw, N.C. in the championship match of the 27th Carolinas Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship. Beasley’s path to the title included four days of focused and fearless golf, capped by a dominant performance in the final round.

The championship began with a unique pod (group) match play format, where 32 players were divided into eight pods of four. Each player competed in three round-robin matches within their pod. The player with the best record in each pod advanced to the single-elimination bracket. This format, designed to reward consistent head-to-head play, adds strategic depth and drama, ensuring every match counts.

After three rounds of pod play on Wednesday and Thursday, the top eight competitors advanced to Friday’s Quarterfinals and Semifinals. Beasley advanced with wins over Haley Paramore, Hannah Lindemann, and Ella June Hannant, while Spence earned her pod win with a fierce match and win over rising James Madison University Golf Senior, Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. Additionally, she advanced to the final championship with a gritty semifinal win over Elle Burnette of Wrightsville Beach, N.C.. On the other side of the bracket, Beasley outlasted Kasey McIlvaine of Raleigh, N.C. in the semifinals to secure her championship berth.

In Saturday’s final match, Beasley took control early and never looked back. With precision ball striking and steady putting, she built a lead and closed out the match on the 15th green, claiming the victory 4 & 3. The win marks Beasley’s first CGA title and a standout moment in her competitive career.
