GREENSBORO, N.C. (October 5, 2025) -- Two sides shot 20-under or better at the North Carolina Four-Ball Championship this weekend, but it was Pennson Badgett of Pilot Mountain, N.C. and Aston Lee of Charlotte, N.C. that came out on top, finishing with a 54-hole score of -25, 191 total.
October cold made the mornings wet and foggy, but the fall weather was welcomed. Forest Oaks Country Club, the former home of the Greater Greensboro Open on the PGA Tour, was in perfect condition with punishing rough and complex rolling greens.
In round one, Eli Kennedy and Brett Barry of Winston-Salem, N.C. were just three-under after nine holes. They quickly gained momentum on the back, recording six birdies and an eagle to get to 11-under and hold a two-stroke lead over Badgett and Lee. Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, N.C. and Ryan Sharpe of Greensboro, N.C. shot eight-under to sit in third.
Round One Leaders
1. Kennedy + Barry (-11)
2. Badgett + Lee (-9)
3. Crenshaw + Sharpe (-8)
T4. Warner + Bryce, Cansler + S. Newton, Welborn + Grear (-7)
Round two saw higher scores thanks to changes in distance on multiple par-3s. Badgett and Lee grabbed a share of the lead with a six-under performance, joining Joseph Cansler of Clemmons, N.C. and Scott Newton of Walllburg, N.C. at 15-under
Juniors Warren Stiglitz of Denver, N.C. and Griffin Williams of Greensboro N.C. shot six-under in each of the first two rounds and found themselves just three strokes behind the leaders.
Round Two Leaders
T1. Badgett + Lee, Cansler + S. Newton (-15)
3. Kennedy + Barry (-14)
4. M. Ordnung + P. Ordnung (-13)
5. Stiglitz + Williams (-12)
A tie at the top and four sides within three strokes set up for some fireworks in the final round.
Badgett and Lee picked up right where they left off, taking a par on the first hole before blazing six-under through the next eight holes to take a two-stroke lead.
Zach Edmondson of Morrisville, N.C. and Jackson Spires of Apex, N.C. also started fast, going 4-under on Nos. 6, 7 and 8. They would finish 9-under to jump into a tie for third.
At noon, it was clear that it would come down to Cansler and Newton or Badgett and Lee for the finale. Cansler and Newton started the back nine with consecutive birdies, but still sat one stroke back from the leaders.
Badgett and Lee continued their march, and birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 put them back ahead by three strokes. Cansler and Newton were in the trenches on their final two holes, but finishing with two birdies was not enough to overcome their deficit.
Badgett and Lee shot the lowest score in round three to capture the 30th N.C. Four-Ball title by one stroke on each’s first visit at Forest Oaks.
Final Round Leaders
Badgett + Lee (-25)
Cansler + S. Newton (-24)
Edmondson + Spires, M. Ordnung + P. Ordnung (-20)
S. Harvey + C. Harvey, Albertyn + Terry (-18)
