It doesn’t get much tighter than this.
After 54 holes at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls, six sides finished tied at 14-under-par 202, forcing a playoff to decide the 58th Carolinas Four-Ball champion. When it was all settled, Sherrill Britt of West End, N.C., and Lee Porter of Pinehurst, N.C., emerged victorious, adding another title to their accomplished resumes.
Britt and Porter earned their place in the playoff with rounds of 68-66-68, staying within striking distance throughout the week before delivering when it mattered most.
Porter provided a major spark in the final round, carding two eagles on the par-5 9th and 16th holes to keep the side firmly in contention. Those moments proved critical in a championship where every shot carried weight.
The leaderboard tells the story. Six sides at 14-under. Four more just one shot back at 13-under. Keowee Falls demanded execution, and it rewarded it just enough to create a finish as crowded as any in recent memory.
Among the contenders, Keith Kepley and John Rudolph posted a second-round 63, which stands as the low round of the championship. Their performance helped vault them into the playoff, highlighting the kind of scoring it took to stay in the mix.
For Britt, the win adds to an already decorated CGA career. He is now a four-time CGA champion, with previous victories at the 2015 Carolinas Mid-Amateur and the North Carolina Senior Four-Ball in 2022 and 2024.
Porter continues his strong run of form as well, following up his 2024 Carolinas Senior Amateur title with another major victory on the CGA calendar.
The Cliffs at Keowee Falls proved to be a worthy host, presenting a challenging yet fair test that set the stage for a memorable week. From the depth of the leaderboard to the dramatic finish, the championship delivered on every level.
The CGA extends its sincere thanks to the staff and members at Keowee Falls for their hospitality and for showcasing a truly outstanding venue.
