RALEIGH, N.C. (September 20, 2026) – William Minton of Raleigh, N.C., captured the 33rd N.C. Mid-Amateur Championship in dramatic fashion, prevailing over Sam Jenkins of Charlotte, N.C., in a three-hole playoff at North Ridge Country Club. Minton secured the title on the third playoff hole to etch his name into the prestigious P.J. Boatwright Jr. Memorial Trophy. 

The championship came down to an electric finish Sunday, as Minton and Jenkins finished regulation tied at 12-under-par 204 after 54 holes. With the title on the line, the two competitors headed to a playoff after a tightly contested final round that kept the championship within reach for both players. 

Jenkins set the pace early in the championship, opening with an impressive 8-under-par 64 to take the first-round lead. He followed with a 69 in the second round and remained in contention heading into Sunday's final round. 

Minton, meanwhile, carded rounds of 67 and 65 to position himself near the top of the leaderboard entering the final day. The Raleigh native closed with an even-par 72 to finish at 12-under-par and force the playoff. 

The two went back and forth throughout the final round, with Jenkins making par on the 18th hole to send the championship into extra holes. After three playoff holes, Minton emerged victorious, claiming the 2026 N.C. Mid-Amateur Championship in a memorable finish. 

Evan Boyer of Morrisville, N.C., finished alone in third place at 10-under-par 206. After opening with consecutive rounds of 71, Boyer surged up the leaderboard with a final-round 64, the lowest round among the championship's top finishers on Sunday. His closing performance moved him up 14 positions to secure a solo third-place finish. 

Cyrus Stewart of Raleigh, N.C., finished in fourth place at 9-under-par 207 with rounds of 67-67-73. Nic Brown of Greenville, N.C., and Will Bowman of Raleigh, N.C., shared fifth place at 8-under-par 208. Brown closed with a 68, while Bowman carded a final-round 70.
