Boys’ Round of 32

Andrew Swanson of Bluffton, S.C. won his match at 7 and 6 against Jay Wilkins of Simpsonville, S.C. Swanson won both of his matches thus far 7 and 6, which is the largest margin win in any match completed for the boys’ division. Swanson will square up to Cheney Connell of Blythewood, S.C. in the next round.

The No. 54 seed, Ashton Eubanks of Lexington, S.C. is the highest remaining seed in the boys’ division after defeating Aiken Golightly of Rock Hill, S.C., 2 and 1. Eubanks will move on to play Sam McMillan of Mount Pleasant, S.C in his next match.

Trey Howard of Woodruff, S.C. defeated Landen Seiffert of Florence, S.C. in the longest match of the tournament so far finishing in 21 holes. Howard was ready to finish the match heading into the third extra hole after having to restart the playoff this morning and his will to close showed as he chipped in for birdie to finish the match.

Nolan Hawkins of Hilton Head, S.C. is the No. 1 seed and he claimed his spot in the Round of 16 after defeating Alex Stephens 4 and 3. Hawkins will face off against Max Green of Hilton Head Island, S.C. in the Round of 16.

Girls’ Quarterfinals

Lextyn Petz of Columbia, S.C. defeated Ava Romfo of Charleston, S.C. 3 and 2. Petz is the highest remaining seed in the girls’ division as the 10th seed and she is looking to pull off yet another upset in her Semifinals match against Alexia Siehl of Fort Mill, S.C.

“I just need to keep calm and keep on going,” said Petz. “My putter was definitely working for me. I was getting pretty comfortable with those greens and made a few putts early on that got me going. Then I just kept it steady on the back nine, so I need to do that again.”

Seihl won her match against Sydney Roberts of Chesnee, S.C. with a 4 and 3 finish.

No. 1 seed, Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. won her match against Hannah Altman of Lake City, S.C. in a nail biting 20 holes. Anderson will square up to Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. in the Semifinals this afternoon.

Reinke also won her match with a close 1 up finish on the 18th green against Emma Hunt of Lake City, S.C.. Reinke made it to the Semifinals in this event last year and is hoping to have a different outcome in the Semifinals this time around.

Boys’ Round of 16

Andrew Swanson of Bluffton, S.C. defeated Cheney Connell of Blythewood, S.C. with an impressive 5 and 4 finish. Swanson’s last two wins came in 7 and 6, which means he has not seen the last four holes since the Stroke Play Qualifying round.

“I just made a heck ton of putts. I think I parred every hole on the front which was pretty nice,” said Swanson. “I need to hit my irons a little closer, I wasn’t giving myself any birdie looks this morning, but I’m feeling pretty good heading into the Quarterfinals.”

Swanson will battle it out with Sam McMillan of Mount Pleasant, S.C. in the Quarterfinals for a spot in the Semifinals.

Mason Tucker of Lancaster, S.C. took down Nicholas Smith of Pickens, S.C. with a swift 4 and 3 finish. Tucker is the reigning champion and will face off in what can only prove to be an exciting match against the No. 1 seed, Nolan Hawkins of Hilton Head Island, S.C. in the Quarterfinals. Hawkins won his Round of 16 match against Max Green also of Hilton Head Island, S.C. 3 and 2 to earn his spot in the Quarterfinals.

Girls’ Semifinals

Alexia Siehl of Fort Mill, S.C. dominated her Semifinals match with a 6 and 5 finish against Lextyn Petz of Columbia, S.C. This is Siehl’s biggest win of the week although it didn’t start out looking like it.

“On the back nine we kept going back and forth so it was really even for a while,” said Siehl. Siehl was 1 up or tied with Petz on every hole until No. 9. “On the back nine my wedges got super consistent so I had a bunch of birdies which really helped me.”

“Helped” is an understatement as Siehl went 2 up through No. 9, 3 up through No. 10, 4 up through No. 11, 5 up through No. 12 and then closed it out 6 and 5 on the 13th green.

Siehl said, “I am feeling confident right now. I know that whoever wins the other match is really good too so I am just excited to play in the Final Match tomorrow.” She will square up to Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. in the Final Match.

Anderson defeated Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. in 19 holes. Anderson went into extra holes in both of her matches today and pulled off the win both times. This time around, Anderson was tied or up on every hole until No. 17. That was the first and only time that Reinke was 1 up during the match after she sank a clutch birdie putt on the 17th green.

“Going into No. 18, Kayleigh was 1 up but I knew that I needed to just stick through it because it's not over until it's over so I got that done with a par on No. 18,” said Anderson. “That took us to the playoff hole and then I was just trying to avoid thinking about how tired my legs and feet were. At that point I just wanted to stick to my game and just focus on what I know how to do.”

Reinke and Anderson both had strong shots off of the tee, however Anderson landed her second shot on the back of the green while Reinke fell short. Reinke gave Anderson her putt for par to end the match on No. 1 green.

“Today I learned that it’s not over until it’s over. You could be down on No. 18 and still come out on top. That was a really cool lesson I learned and proving it twice definitely gives me some confidence,” said Anderson.

Anderson and Siehl will face off in the Final Match tomorrow morning at 7:50 a.m.

Boys’ Quarterfinals

Nolan Hawkins of Hilton Head Island, S.C., remains the No. 1 seed for the third day in a row heading into the boys’ quarterfinals after defeating reigning champion Mason Tucker of Lancaster, S.C. 3 and 2.

“I was definitely a little nervous going into the match, because I know he is a really good player, but I was ready for the round,” Hawkins said.

Hawkins and Tucker started their day even through the first nine, with Tucker taking the one shot lead early on. Hawkins kept his game tight, and eventually closed Tucker out on the 16th green..

Hawkins will face off against Andrew Swanson, of Bluffton, S.C. tomorrow in the Semifinals.

Trey Crenshaw of Lancaster S.C, also earned a spot in the Boy’s Semifinals match tomorrow after defeating Zach Adams of Charleston, S.C.

Crenshaw was 2 up through No. 16 when the tide began to turn. Adams birdied Nos. 17 and 18, hitting two wedge shots close to the pin. Crenshaw admits he let two putts get away that could have ended the match, but alas sent them into a sudden death playoff.

On the 19th hole, Adams hit his wedge shot to 6 feet, and Crenshaw knew he had to answer with a close shot, if not closer to keep the match going.

“I knew he was going to hit it tight so I hit it just inside his ball and was lucky to sink the winning putt,” Crenshaw said.

Crenshaw remains confident heading into tomorrow with the game plan of remaining calm and collected as he did today. Crenshaw will face off against Trey Howard of Woodruff, S.C. in the Semifinals tomorrow.
