CGA Announces 65th Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship


65th CAROLINAS JUNIOR BOYS' CHAMPIONSHIP AT CAMDEN COUNTRY CLUB IN CAMDEN, SC - JULY 29-31, 2014

WEST END, NC (7/28/14) -- The 65th Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship will be held at the Camden Country Club in Camden, SC on July 29-31, 2014.

131 players have qualified for the 2014 Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship. The championship format is 54 holes of stroke play. The field will be reduced to the low 60 scorers and ties after 36 holes. Boys will compete in one division. There are no age divisions. Trophies are awarded to the champion and the top 6 players.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 19th birthday by July 31, 2014, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member or their parent is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.4. Exempt players are accepted into the championship at the time of entry. Non-exempt players gained entry into the championship through sectional qualifying. Sectional qualifiers were held at Sunset Country Club in Sumter, SC and Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, NC.

Designed by the renowned golf course designer/architect, Donald Ross, Camden Country Club’s par 70 golf course spans 6,350 yards and is always rated in the top 25 of South Carolina golf courses. The 18 hole championship course is considered one of the Carolinas most challenging tests of golfing skills. Camden Country Club has been home to the Carolinas Golf Association men's Carolinas Four-Ball Championship for more than 50 years. They have hosted qualifying for the USGA Men’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships and numerous CGA & SCGA events.

In the 2013 Carolinas Junior Boys' championship held at High Point CC (Willow Creek) in High Point, NC, Doc Redman of Raleigh, NC came from four shots off the pace after round 2 to win the championship by one stroke over 2009 Carolinas Junior Boys' champion Will Long of Gastonia, NC. Redman is returning this year to defend his championship. Redman recently competed in the 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and successfully made it into the round of 16 match play.

Other notables in this year's strong field include 2013 NC Junior Boys champion Austin Inman, Wilmington, NC; 2010 North Carolina 13 & Under champion Eric Bae, Pinehurst, NC; 2011 North Carolina 13 & Under champion James Sugg, Pinehurst, NC; Trace Crowe; Bluffton, SC; Will Hicks, Camden, SC; and James Mishoe IV, Cary, NC.
