19th North Carolina Four-Ball - Pre-Championship Release

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The 19th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship will be played on the Lakes course at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh from October 3-5. The 6,880 yard par 72 layout was designed by Gene Hamm and George Cobb, then later redesigned by John LaFoy to assure challenge and playability for players of all skill levels. The club has held two previous CGA championships; the 1997 Carolinas Mid-Amateur and the 2011 N.C. Senior Amateur.

Half of last year’s winning team returns to defend the title. Dave Boyce, Jr., of Charlotte, will play this year with Dermot McElhennon, of New Bern. Boyce’s partner from the 2013 championship, Daniel Claytor, turned professional. There are plenty of past winners in the field, but only one complete duo; brothers Mark Gauley, of Raleigh, and Brian Gauley, of Wake Forest, who won in 2006. Previous winners John Spell, of Clinton (2010) and Brent Parrish, of Clinton (2009) will team together to try to return to the winner’s circle.

Sixty-one teams will compete over 54-holes of stroke-play for the championship. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 30 team scores and ties. First and second round starting times can be found at: https://www.ghintpp.com/carolinasgolf/TPPOnlineScoring/Pairings.aspx?id=506

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by October 3, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.

The North Carolina Four-Ball is one of 40 championships conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association, which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas. For more information about the Championship, visit: https://www.carolinasgolf.org/championship/home/14nc4ball/year/2014
