CGA Announces 11th North Carolina Women's Senior Amateur Championship

WEST END, NC -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 11th North Carolina Women's Senior Amateur Championship will take place on April 15-16 at Cedarwood Country Club in Charlotte, NC.

The North Carolina Women's Senior Amateur Championship is contested at 36 holes of stroke play with  a Championship division and a Tournament division (shorter course). Players have the option to compete in either division. The Tournament division plays a shorter course and is ineligible for the overall championship.

Entry is open to any female golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by April 15, 2014, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a active GHIN® USGA handicap index at a CGA member club.

Built in 1964, Cedarwood was designed by noted golf course architect Ellis Maples and was built by Alex Guion as a public golf facility. In 1984 the membership took control of the club and Cedarwood underwent numerous course and facility changes to become one of the premiere private clubs in the area. In 2005, the course underwent a complete restoration to its greens complexes and bunkers. Kris Spence took on the restoration project which also stretched the course to more than 7,000 yards.

The club has previously hosted the 2007 North Carolina Junior; the 2008 North Carolina Senior Amateur; and the 2010 North Carolina Women's Senior championships.

The field for the 2014 championship is expected to consist of 51 players. Exempt players were automatically accepted into the championship while others were selected after close of entries with the lowest handicap indexes gaining entry.

Returning to defend her 2013 North Carolina Women's Senior Amateur victory is Peg Brady of Stanley, NC. Brady captured her first North Carolina Women’s Senior Championship crown by a one shot margin over 2012 defending champion, Pat Brogden of Garner, NC. Brady and Brogden (2007, 2010 and 2012 NC Women's Senior champion) will have a chance to go head-to-head again this year as Brogden is also entered in the 2014 championship.

Other notable players to make the 2014 field include two-time North Carolina Women's Senior champion (2004, 2008) and 16-time CGA champion Patty Moore of Charlotte, NC; 2006 and 2009 NC Women's Senior champion Melissa Sage of Charlotte, NC; 2011 NC Women's Senior Amateur champion Angela Stewart, Greenville, NC; and 2005 NC Women's Senior champion Dianne Yelovich, Pinehurst, NC.
