Jacksonville, NC- It was a cold, windy day at Jacksonville Country Club for the first round of the 7th Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Invitational as only one player managed to shoot under par. Future North Carolina State Golf commit, Davis Richards of China Grove, NC used five birdies to shoot a one under par, 71. Richards finished runner-up in last year’s invitational, “I like this course,” said the senior from South Rowan Senior High School. The first round leader will tee of tomorrow at 11:15 am, ”I feel good, I putted well today, I am looking forward to teeing it up and going to chase it tomorrow,” added Davis after his round. Playing alongside Richards will be Eric Bae of Pinehurst, NC and Mason Elmore of Charlotte, NC. Bae, currently sits solo second, is looking forward to playing in the final group, “I am good friends with Richards, so it should be fun. I wish I would have made a few more putts” said Bae after the round. Elmore will enter the final round in a tie for third with Christian Salzer from Sumter, SC and Michael Childress of Salisbury, NC. The trio trails the leader by two strokes. The final round will start at 9:00am with the leaders going off shortly after 11:00pm.

 About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
Now in its 106th year, the CGA annually conducts 43 championships and five team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. It also runs over 140 One-Day (net and gross) events and qualifying for USGA national championships. The CGA serves golf in the Carolinas with numerous programs such as: the USGA Handicap System; tournament management software and support; course measuring and course/slope ratings; agronomy consultation; answers about the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, and Handicapping; Carolinas Golf Magazine; Interclub series; Tarheel Youth Golf Association; Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame; expense assistance for USGA Junior and Girls' Junior qualifiers from the Carolinas; and the Carolinas Golf Foundation (CGF). The CGF has distributed more than $1,500,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including turf grass research along with junior and women's programs.
