Briele Bounces Back at NC Women's Sr

Greensboro, NC – Final results of the 12th N.C. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship hosted by Starmount Forest Country Club on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.  Par 36-36—72, 5650 yards (Course Rating: 72.6/133).

Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. bought a “new to her” putter after the first round following some putting woes which assisted her in capturing her first individual CGA championship title (Briele won the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship in 2001 with Jenny Jones).  “It’s a funny story,” Briele said during her acceptance speech.  “I called all my friends that I knew from the area to see if they had a long putter I could borrow.  I forgot mine at home and I just didn’t want to buy another one.”  After dinner and much thought Briele ventured to the local golf shop to comb the used putter section.  “It cost me $40.

It was the best $40 I’ve spent in a long time.” Briele laughed.  The putter is what helped Briele seal her one shot victory over past champion Angela Stewart, M.D. of Greenville, N.C.  “It came down to the very end,” Stewart said.  Briele holed a putt on the par-5 18th hole to save par and earn her the title.  When asked how it feels to win again, Briele just smiled and said, “Great!  It feels just great.”

Defending champion Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. finished in 4th place. Starmount Forest Country Club member Jackie Edmunds of Greensboro, N.C. had her second ever Hole-in-One on the par-3 10th.

In the tournament division, Sook Hee Yang of Jamestown, N.C. led wire-to-wire to win by six strokes.  This division plays a shorter course.  Carole Jones of Hillsborough, N.C. won the Super Senior prize.

Players were placed into flights within their division for the final round.  For full detailed hole-by-hole scoring please visit the championship homepage:  https://www.carolinasgolf.org/championship/home/15ncwomsenior/year/2015
