Katie Kirk of Davidson, NC Fires a 67 to Earn Medalist Honors at 17th Carolinas Women's Match Play

Stanley, NC – Stroke play qualifying results of the 17th Carolinas Women’s Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Golf Club on Tuesday, July 8, 2014.  Par 36-36—72  5975 yards.

 

2014 Carolinas Women’s Amateur (Stroke Play) Champion Katie Kirk of Davidson, NC fired an impressive 5-under par 67 to earn medalist honors and the No. 2 seed.  Kirk, carded eight birdies and three bogeys.  “I just played solid golf today,” Kirk said.  “I don’t think I hardly ever had a putt outside of 6 feet for a birdie chance.”  Fellow competitor Dawn Woodard of Greer, SC laughed and said “it was really fun to watch.  Too bad I didn’t make that many birdies out there.” 

 

The cut line fell at 7-over 79.  After a four hole playoff Janis Romeo-Dinschel of Charlotte, NC earned the last spot in the championship flight and will face off against defending champion Katie Rose Higgins of Charleston, SC.

 

In the tournament division Peggy Lea of Charlotte, NC was the medalist and will be seeded No. 1 for the match play portion of the championship.  This division plays a shorter course.
