Gaston Bertinotti of Lillington, N.C. won the 2nd Carolinian Amateur, finishing the final day with a three-under 69 and 10-under 206 overall." "I think I played really solid all this week," said Bertinotti. "The golf course was in great shape, so that helped."

Bertinotti made an eagle on the par-5 sixth, four birdies, and just one bogey in the final round. However, a double-bogey on the par-4 15th brought his lead down to 3-under going into the final three holes. "The wind was strolling all day long. I was trying to hit the middle of the green and take my bogey, but it rolled all the way down, but I hit a great shot on the next one." After composing himself, Bertinotti made two birdies on par-4 16th and par-5 18th to seal the victory.

For Bertinottti, winning on your home course just means more. "I have been here for four year. All the people around here are very nice to me and welcome me all the time, so it is something big to win on your home course."

Brett McLamb,  of Coats, N.C., finished second at six-under par 210 overall, three-under 69 in the final round. Quinn Tardif of Charlotte, N.C. finished third at 3-under 213 overall, 2-over 74 in the final round.  Bertinotti, McLamb, and Tardif were the only players to break par on the final day.

The Carolinian Amateur is open to any male amateur golfer ages 16 or older as of May 19, 2017 who is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® of 7.4 or lower. There is no residency requirement for this tournament.

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of the Keith Hills Country Club for hosting the Carolinian Amateur. Special gratitude is extended to director of golf Martha Sutton, golf course superintendent Damon Dean, and general manager Ken Jones.
