No. 1 seed Nicholas Mayfield of Rock Hill, S.C. kept his strong play going today, winning his round one and round two matches after 17 holes to advance to the round of 16. Girls' No. 1 seed Anna Grace Brock of Greenwood, S.C. also won her first round match by a score of 4 and 3 and advanced to the girls' quarterfinals.

Mayfield credited his wins to clutch finishing, but admitted he struggled throughout the day.

"Not too much worked for me today," Mayfield said with a laugh, "but I was able to make a couple of really good putts there at the end."

Mayfield had two key putts on No. 16 that helped to seal both of his victories.

The 2019 University of South Carolina commit said that errant tee shots and his play around the greens were what he struggled with most today. However, Mayfield is looking at it as the glass being half full.

"I still feel good. I feel like this is the worst I could've played so hopefully I can play better tomorrow."

The biggest upset of the day was No. 59 seed Blake Weinbach of Columbia, S.C. defeating No. 6 seed Ford Reynolds of Columbia, S.C. with a score of 1 up in the first round.

The South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship begins with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying for all divisions. The boys' division was cut to the low 64 for match play. The girls’ division was cut to the low 16 for match play.
