22nd North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under Championship
Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Final Results

ASHEBORO, N.C. (July 17, 2018) -- Quarterfinal, semifinal, and final results of the 22nd North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under Championship at Asheboro Municipal Golf Course in Asheboro, N.C. on Tuesday, July 17.

Will Spicer of Kings Mountain, N.C. is 2018 North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under champion. Spicer won three matches on the second day including a 2 and 1 victory in the championship match against Parks Helms of Fayetteville, N.C.

Spicer shot a ten-over-par, 80 and had to compete in a three-man playoff for the final two spots in the championship flight. Spicer birdied the first hole in that playoff to earn the No. 15 seed and never looked back. He won his first two matches 1 up and his last two matches 2 and 1 on route to his first CGA title.

Through nine holes in the championship match Spicer held a 1 up lead, but gained a 2 up lead after a par on No. 15. He would lose the next hole after Helms made par, but finished the match off on No. 17.

Robert Gafaell of Charlotte, N.C. won the first flight 2 and 1, Kyle Haas of Winston-Salem, N.C. won the second flight 1 up, Cole Rouse of Kernersville, N.C. won the third flight 1 up, and Bizzell Pate of Elizabethtown, N.C. won the fourth flight 3 and 1.

The championship is conducted at match play. There was an 18-hole stroke-play qualifying round to determine match play flights and seeding. The top 16 from the stroke-play qualifying qualified for the championship flight. The other players are in flights of 8 players based on their qualifying score. The championship flight will play 4 rounds of match play. All matches are 9-hole matches with the championship match being an 18-hole match (no elimination). All other flights play 3 rounds of 9-hole matches (no elimination).
