Preview: 51st Carolina Senior Four-Ball

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (April 10, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 51st Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship at the Dataw Island Club (Cotton Dike), Dataw Island, S.C. from April 15-17, 2019. The field is expected to consist of 60 sides for this 54-hole stroke-play event.

Sides to watch:

  • Defending Champions Stan Sill of Spartanburg, S.C. and Mike Gravley of Greer, S.C. came from behind last year to claim the title be three shots over their nearest competitors. The win marked the first CGA title for both competitors. They'll look to add to that total when they defend the title this year at Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike course.
  • The back-to-back championship team of James Pearson of Charlotte, N.C. and Jim Grainger of Charlotte, N.C. are teaming back up to reclaim the magic they had when they won the title in 2016 and 2017. The duo did not play together in last year's championship and missed the opportunity for the three-peat. A win this year would spell redemption for the two-time Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Champs.
  • Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. and Don Detweiler of Raleigh, N.C. come in hot off a win at the N.C. Super Senior Four-Ball Championship in March. Simson and Detweiler are three-time winners of this event (2008, 2010, 2012).
  • Kelly Stimart of Charlotte, N.C. and Johnny Elam of Charlotte, N.C. won their first CGA Senior Four-Ball Championship as a team last year at the 18th N.C. Senior Four-Ball Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C. The duo has plenty of firepower to take down this tougher field that includes the best senior four-ball teams in both North and South Carolina.
  • Four-time CGA champion Walter Todd, Sr. of Laurens, S.C. and two-time South Carolina Senior Champion Todd Hendley of Columbus, N.C. finished in eighth place in this event last year. Hendley is the reigning Carolinas Senior Amateur Champion.
  • Macon Moye of Pinehurst, N.C., a four-time CGA champion, and Frank Golden of Charlotte, N.C. finished tied for fourth in this event last year. Moye is the reigning N.C. Senior Amateur Champion.
