Preview: 16th N.C. Senior Women's Amateur

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (April 26, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 16th North Carolina Senior Women’s Amateur Championship from April 29-30, 2019 at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Players to watch:

  • Pat Brogden of Garner, the defending champion and five-time winner of the N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur, is the clear favorite coming into this year’s event. Last year’s victory brought her lifetime CGA championship total wins to 13. She has also finished runner-up in this event four times.
  • Susan Beaupied of Pittsboro is the reigning Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur champion and is second in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Rankings; the highest ranked golfer in this field.
  • Patty Moore of Pinehurst has the second most N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur titles with four, but the most CGA women’s championship titles overall with 19. Moore recently claimed medalist honors at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open Qualifier and will compete at the championship in May.
  • Last year’s runner-up, Angela Stewart of Greenville, is the 2011 N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur champion. Stewart also finished second in last year’s Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur and the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball (Senior Division). Stewart is currently ranked fourth in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Ranking.
  • Kim Briele of New Bern is the 2015 N.C. Women’s Senior Amateur Champion. In last year’s event, she finished a respectable fifth place. She was also part of the winning Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball (Senior Division) team with partner, Patty Moore.
  • Kathy Binkley of Cornelius also finished runner-up in last year’s championship. Binkley finished third in last year’s Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur and the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball (Senior Division). Binkely currently sits in third on the Carolinas Senior Women’s Rankings.

Championship Facts

The North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur Championship began in 2004. This championship is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play with a Championship division and a Carolinas division. The competition includes gross and net scores and prizes are given for gross and net winners in each flight. Players are pre-flighted within their division based on Handicap Index®. The champion of the tournament will be named from the Championship Division only. Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by April 29, 2019, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index®.
