Alexis Sudjianto of Charlotte, N.C. captured her second CGA championship title at the 53rd Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship with a 4-over-par, 148 total. The Carnegie Mellon rising freshman tied Peyton Gillespie of Greenville, S.C. for the low round of the day with 1-under-par, 71 in the final round.

Sudjianto climbed her way to the top of the leaderboard today after a 5-over-par, 77 in the first round. She started the final round in a three-way tie for sixth.

“I didn't have a ton of expectations based on how I played the first day,” said Sudjianto. “My drives set me up well. I was very confident off the tee and that just helped me with better angles into the greens. On top of that, I was able to sink some putts that I wasn't able to yesterday.”

Sudjianto has had an exciting month. She was a quarterfinalist at the North Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship, finished in the top 10 at the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship, and qualified for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship after taking medalist honors at her qualifier. Now she can add a hard-fought victory at the 53rd Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship to this month’s accolades.

Sudjianto was tied with Deb Spair of Raleigh, N.C. going into their last hole in the final round. A bogey at the last made Spair a close runner-up, just one stroke behind Sudjianto. Spair finished the final round with a 5-over-par, 149 total.

“I felt good on the front nine and then probably after a birdie on the par three I felt pretty good. It was mostly just trying to hit greens and make some putts,” said Spair. “I am just happy that I finished the round. Everyone is so nice and so supportive out here. I had a lot of fun today.”

There was a four-way tie for third place between the round one leader Alexia Siehl of Fort Mill, S.C., Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C., Kennedy Carroll of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Kelley Topiwala of Matthews, N.C. They all finished with 8-over-par, 152 totals.

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of Rolling Hills Country Club for their amazing hospitality in hosting the 53rd Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship. Special gratitude is extended to the Head Golf Professional, Jeff Avant; Superintendent, Greg McDanel; Clubhouse Manager, Kayle Schmidt and the General Manager, Darren Berkman.
