Boys’ Round of 16 Results:

The tables turned today for the boys in the round of 16 as seven of the eight matches were upsets leading to the highest seed in the boys’ division now being Max Green of Hilton Head Island, S.C., the seventh seed.

Jerry Bruns of Beaufort, S.C. managed to take down the first seed, Willis Rogers of Charleston, S.C. with a 2 and 1 finish. Bruns will be moving on to the quarterfinals and facing off against Ford Reynolds of Columbia, S.C.

Mason Tucker of Lancaster, S.C. is also moving on to the quarterfinals after yet another striking upset as he defeated the second seed, Austin Scott of Charleston, S.C. 3 and 1. Tucker will play Max Green in the quarterfinals.

Girls’ Quarterfinals Results:

Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. is the first seed in the Girls’ Division and she is continuing on her way to the Semifinals after defeating Camila Burnett of Bluffton, S.C. with a nail biting 1 up finish. Reinke will face off against Anna Grace Brock of Greenwood, S.C. in the semifinals match for a shot at the championship match tomorrow.

Phoebe Carles of Clinton, S.C. continues her path to the championship match with a 4 and 2 win over Gillian O’Brien of Clemson, S.C. She will be playing her semifinal match against Hannah Altman of Lake City, S.C., who also had an impressive win in the quarterfinals. Atlman is the 11th seed in the girls’ division and she defeated the third seed, Lextyn Petz of Columbia, S.C. in 20 holes.

Boys’ Quarterfinals Results:

There is nothing like a pair of best friends facing off against each other to heat things up in a quarterfinals match and that is what we saw between William Phipps of Florence, S.C. and Pake June of Florence, S.C. this afternoon. Phipps ultimately defeated June 1 up, but we will see June again tomorrow as he caddies for Phipps in his semifinal match. Phipps will square up against Jerry Bruns of Beaufort, S.C. in the semifinals for a shot at the championship match.

Mason Tucker of Lancaster S.C. defeated Max Green of Hilton Head Island, S.C. in a close match ending 1 up. Tucker will fight for his seat in the championship match tomorrow against Mavrick Mullinax of Lexington, S.C. Mullinax won his quarterfinals match 2 and 1 against Sullivan Hooper of Leesville, S.C.

Girls’ Semifinals Results:

Anna Grace Brock of Greenwood, S.C. went head to head against the number one seed, Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. and ultimately won in 19 holes to claim her seat in the championship match. Brock is headed into the championship match in this event for the third time and has made “third time's the charm” her mantra for tomorrow’s match.

“I am feeling confident,” said Brock. “I just need to focus on telling myself ‘if you're down, just keep it going and you can get back up’ and that will hopefully make for a good day.”

Phoebe Carles of Clinton, S.C. will also be headed into the championship match after defeating Hannah Altman of Lake City, S.C. with a 7 and 6 finish. Carles won both of her matches today by large margins with a solid mix of birdies and pars and avoided bogeys, despite the wet conditions and fast greens.

“I think that if I can just combine my two matches from today and take the combination of pars and birdies into tomorrow that the championship match should turn out pretty well,” said Carles.

Brock and Carles will face off at 8:30 a.m. for the title of Girls’ 2019 South Carolina Junior Match Play Champion tomorrow morning.
