Get To Know The 2019 CGA Interns: Madi Balfe

Madi Balfe is a senior journalism major with a Communication studies minor at the University of Georgia from Lawrenceville, Georgia. She has been a golfer since she was a junior in high school and she has loved the game ever since.

A huge part of Madi's college experience has been being a member, Vice President, and now President of her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. Their philanthropy is Girls on the Run, an organization based on building strong girls from ages 8 to 13 to have high self-esteem and self worth through training for a 5K, and it is a true passion and joy of hers. For the past four summers she has worked at a mobile device staging corporation, Stratix, as a staging technician as well as a quality control technician. She loves watching and playing all kinds of sports, eating sushi, and of course watching the Dawgs win.

  • Career Goals: I am most interested in the communications and media side of golf. As a journalism major with a communications minor, I really enjoy being both behind and in front of the camera as well as holding a pen one hand and social media in the other. Communications and journalism are my strong suits and golf is my passion, so any intersection between the two is a position I would like to work in.

  • Goals for this summer:

    • Through more interactive and engaging social media posts I would like to increase the Instagram followers by 150, Twitter followers by 250, and Facebook page likes by 300.

    • I would like to research and get to know the tournament players so that I am able to produce a recap within the first few hours of the completion of every tournament.

    • By August, I would like to have completed at least 5 multi-platform packages (photo, video, writing, and/or data visualizations) to increase engagement and viewership for the CGA.

    • In order to secure a job in the golf industry prior to graduation in December, I would like to take full advantage of my opportunities at the Carolinas Golf Association as well as any networking opportunities that arise during the summer.

  • Hobbies: I really enjoy sports overall. I play volleyball and basketball, watch golf and football, and talk about all of the above when I get the chance. I also love to watch movies, read the newspaper (I know, old fashioned), and eat Chinese food, which I would definitely consider a hobby.

  • Enjoy playing golf? Yes, I love golf!
