Preview: 70th Carolinas Junior Boys'

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 21, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 70th Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship at River Landing Country Club's River Course in Wallace, N.C. from July 23-25, 2019. (6,942 yards, par 36-36--72)

Players to watch:

  • Zach Reuland of Rock Hill, S.C. has won three events in the last four months including the CGA Creed Boys’ Invitational. This summer he has had only top -10 finishes and is currently ranked fourth in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings.

  • Austin Scott of Daniel Island, S.C. has also only had top-10 finishes this summer including a big win at the SCJGA 2019 South Carolina Junior Championship and a tie for ninth at the South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship.

  • Mason Tucker of Lancaster, S.C. won the South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship last week and is hoping to carry that momentum with him into this event. 

  • Garrett Risner of Holly Springs, N.C. took home the title at the TYGA Bojangles Junior Open in June and claimed third place at the Pinehurst North and South Junior earlier this month. 

  • JT Herman of Hilton Head Island, S.C. has won five events in 2019 alone including a tie for first place at the SCJGA 2019 South Carolina Junior Championship. This is Herman’s first CGA event of the year, but he is hoping to continue to add to his trophy collection with some CGA hardware at this event. 

  • Jake Herring of Wilson, N.C. is ranked 15th in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings with a T11 finish at the Carolinian Amateur Championship and first place at the NCHSAA 3A East Regional in May.

  • Randall Hudson of New Bern, N.C. has had six top-10 finishes this summer including a tie for third at the North Carolina Junior Boys’ Championship last month.

River Landing Country Club consists of the River Course and the Landing Course, two 18-hole courses designed by nationally acclaimed architect Clyde Johnston. This event will be played on the River Course that received its name as it runs along the Northeast Cape Fear River, which provides incredible views and a challenge along several holes.

The championship format is 54-holes of stroke play. The field will be reduced to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 19th birthday by July 25, 2019, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member or their parent is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.4.
