Preview: 63rd Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 26, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 63rd Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C. from July 30 - August 1, 2019. (6,072 yards, par 36-36--72, 75.1/133)

Players to watch:

  • Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. is the defending champion in this event and she is currently ranked 13th in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. Atwood was the runner-up at the North Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship in June and is hoping to defend her title in this event this year. 
  • Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. is coming off of a big win at the Carolinas Girls’ 15 and Under Championship earlier this month and is hoping to carry that momentum into this event.
  • Chloe Holder of Williamston, S.C. claimed the victory at the WSCGA 2019 Junior Girls’ State Championship in June and is now currently ranked 17th in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. 
  • Emily Dunlap of Greenville, S.C. is ranked fourth in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings with a tie for sixth in her last tournament, the Pinehurst North and South Junior, earlier this month. 
  • Kelley Topiwala of Charlotte, N.C. has had seven top-10 finishes this year including third place finishes at the Dogwood State Junior Girls’ Championship, the Pinehurst North and South Junior, and the Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship in the last month.

Columbia Country Club offers 27 holes designed by famed architect Ellis Maples in 1961. These courses pair to make for long, tree lined fairways, vast rough and undulating fast greens. The championship will be played on the Ridgewood/Tall Pines courses. This will be the second Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship contested at Columbia Country Club.

The championship format is 54 holes of stroke play competition.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18 as of August 1, 2019, who has not started college, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
