Schimpf Leads Carolinas Girls' by Seven Strokes

 

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (July 31, 2019) -- The results from the second round of the 63rd Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C. from July 30 - August 1, 2019. (6,072 yards, par 36-36--72, 75.1/133)

Abigail Schimpf of Daniel Island, S.C. had the low round of the day for the second day in a row. She carded a 6-under-par, 66 to give her a 36-hole total of 8-under-par, 136. With five birdies on the front, Schimpf was off to a great start.

“This is the first time in a few tournaments that I have actually been in contention so on the first hole I was pretty nervous, but after my par all of the nerves went away,” said Schimpf. “I think that is really where my birdies started coming from was after that par I was able to settle down.”

On the back nine, Schimpf had another birdie to continue her hot streak and finish without a single bogey for the day.

“I had a lot of opportunities on all 18 holes and I just really took advantage of them on the front nine. I just had birdie putts on every hole, which just made today a lot easier.” said Schimpf.

Following Schimp with another great round is Alexia Siehl of Fort Mill, S.C. who shot 3-under-par, 69 today to set her up in second at 1-under-par, 143 going into the final round.

Sophie Holland of Cornelius, N.C. has claimed third after the second round with even-par, 144. Rachel Rich of Mount Pleasant, S.C. has set herself up in fourth at 2-over-par, 146 and just one stroke behind her is Emily Dunlap of Greenville, S.C. who captured fifth with 3-over-par, 147.

The final round of the 63rd Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship will be contested tomorrow morning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
