After two inches of rainfall overnight, the creek at The Cardinal by Pete Dye continued to rise which made several of the holes unplayable. Therefore the final round of the 25th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship was canceled this morning. However since the first and second rounds were completed, the championship was converted to a 36-hole event and we were still able to crown our 2020 North Carolina Four-Ball Champions.

James Mishoe of Cary, N.C. and Louis Lambert of Charlotte, N.C. captured their first CGA Championship victory after a 17-under-par, 126 overall finish.

This is the first time that the Guildford College teammates have teamed up together in a four-ball event. After an 8-under-par, 64 at Forest Oaks and a 9-under-par, 62 at their home course, The Cardinal, Mishoe and Lambert have proven to be a great match up.

“This is both of our first CGA wins. We have both played in so many CGA tournaments so it is really cool to finally win one,” said Lambert. Mishoe remarked, “It was a weird way to win honestly. We both woke up thinking we were going to play. Then there were the two delays and then they called us and told us we won!”

The newly minted champions are seniors on the Guilford golf team and lamented about this win making the end of their college career that much sweeter. “This may be one of our last chances to win together so it is really cool,” said Mishoe. “We played together in college for four years, lived together twice and it is just a great experience to win with such a good friend.”

Dan Walters and Davis Womble of Winston-Salem, N.C. claimed runners-up for the second year in a row just one stroke off of the lead at 16-under-par, 127 total. The side tied the low round at The Cardinal of 9-under, 62 on the day, but fell just one shot shy after a still impressive 7-under, 65 at Forest Oaks.

Round one leaders, Matthew Younts of Raleigh, N.C. and Nate Cook of Greensboro, N.C. earned solo third at 15-under-par, 128 overall. Two strokes behind them, Carolinas Four-Ball Champions Ben Woodruff of Canton, N.C. and Carson Ownbey of Huntersville, N.C. staked a three-way tie for fourth position with Stephen Carroll and Walker Cress of Concord, N.C. as well as C.J. Deberg and Will Dull of Charlotte, N.C.. All three sides finished the championship at 13-under-par, 130 overall.

The CGA would like to extend a thank you to the members and staff of Forest Oaks Country Club and The Cardinal by Pete Dye for their hospitality in hosting the 25th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship. We would also like to thank the players and spectators for their understanding and adherence to our COVID-19 tournament protocols.
