BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (April 17, 2021) -- Second round results of the 41st Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship at Columbia Country Club (Ridgewood/Tall Pines) in Blythewood, S.C. on April 17, 2021. The field is playing the Ridgewood/Tall Pines routing at 6,965 yards (par 36-36--72).

Chad Wilfong of Charlotte, N.C. fired off a 6-under-par, 66 on the day to climb atop the leaderboard to 8-under-par, 136 total. The reigning North Carolina Mid-Amateur Champion played a bogey-free round with birdies on Nos. 1, 2, 7, 12, 13, and 14.

The key to Wilfong’s round was consistently hitting the ball in the right spots. “I holed a bunch of putts that I needed to that just kept the momentum going in the round,” he said. “I didn’t hit it all that well, but I just didn’t hit in bad spots. Every hole that I seemed to hit it close or close enough, I seemed to make those putts with one exception.”

Wilfong leads the field by four heading into the final round tomorrow. He remarked, “Whether you are ahead by four or behind by four, it isn’t going to change the mindset a whole lot. Anyone who is three, four, five shots behind can still make some birdies the same way that I did today. You just gotta keep hitting good shots and playing aggressively.”

First-round leader Josh Branyon of Honea Path, S.C. and Zach Schwab of Columbia, S.C. are tied in the second position at 4-under-par, 136 total heading into the final round. Jason Garrett of Stem, N.C. catapulted himself from tied for 32nd to tied for fourth after a 5-under-par, 67 today. Garrett is tied for the fourth position with Connor Monaghan of Chapel Hill, N.C. at 3-under-par, 141 total.

The cut line fell at 6-over par, 150 and 62 players will compete in the final round tomorrow. The round will begin at 8:00 a.m. with starting times until 9:36 a.m. off of Nos. 1 and 10. Stay tuned to our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for live updates of the final round tomorrow.
