An explosive opening round at the 26th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship showcased the 2016 and 2017 champions reaching double digits under-par, a side of Holly Springs natives firing off an 8-under-par, 64 and a three-way-tie for third just three strokes off the lead.

JD McNeill of Raleigh, N.C. and Jerry Richardson of Cary, N.C. are the only back-to-back champions in North Carolina Four-Ball Championship history and they are certainly vying for their third this week.

The duo turned in a clean scorecard with eight birdies and an eagle on the par-5, No. 13. They made the turn at 5-under-par, 31 and came into the clubhouse with an outstanding 10-under-par, 62 opening round which puts them in the lead entering the weekend.

Owen Kose and Zach Roberts of Holly Springs, N.C. played an incredible bogey-free first round with eight birdies on the day. Matching front and back nine scores of 4-under-par, 32 leaves them just two strokes off the lead in solo second position at 8-under-par, 64.

The Club at 12 Oaks members, Timothy Driver and Brian Urban of Holly Springs, N.C. are tied for third position with Jeremy Ray of Pfafftown, N.C. and Joseph Cansler of Clemmons, N.C., and Alex Nianouris of Raleigh, N.C. and David Sargent of Cornelius, N.C. at 7-under-par, 65.

The leaderboard is packed at the top with 34 sides finishing under-par after the opening round, so we can expect the competition to heat up tomorrow as the teams try to make the cut for Sunday’s final round. The second round will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. with starting times until 2:18 p.m. off of Nos. 1 and 10. Stay tuned tomorrow to our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for live coverage of the second round of the 26th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship.
