CGAcers Club

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (January 27, 2022) -- One hundred and sixty-one (161) applications were submitted to the CGAcers club for holes-in-one in 2021. The average distance of those reported was 135 yards. The longest ace recorded was 210 yards by Lake Williams from Greenville, N.C. Williams made this incredible shot on the 5th hole of Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C. on July 24, 2021. The shortest ace (48 yards) was made by Gary Griggs from Pawley’s Island, S.C. on No.13 of the Pawley’s Plantation Golf & Country Club in Pawley’s Island, S.C.

Once again, Wildwood Green Golf Club in Raleigh, N.C. reported the most holes-in-one with twenty (24).  Of those, nine (9) were made on Hole No.17, seven (7) on Hole No. 12, five (5) on Hole No.6, and three (3) on Hole No. 4.

 

Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines, NC came in second and reported twelve (12) holes-in-one.  Of these, five (5) were made on Hole No. 11, five (5) on Hole. No. 6 and two (2) on Hole No. 2. The Clubs at St. James and The Walker Course at Clemson University tied for third with each reporting nine (9) holes-in-one for the year.

 

The significant achievement of three (3) holes-in-one being reported by a member within a year is rare.  Justin Miller from Raleigh, NC reported each of his accomplishments at Wildwood Green Golf Club and of special note, they were each on the 12th day of the month.   They were December 12, 2020 (No. 4- 164 yards – 7 Iron), March 12, 2021 (No. 17- 142 yards – 9 Iron) and April 12, 2021 (No. 17- 118 yards – 52* Wedge). 

 

Players reporting the accomplishment of two holes-in-one in a calendar year were up from three (3) in 2019 and one (1) in 2020 to five (5) in 2021.  They are:

  • Matt Armistead – May 20 (No. 11- 165 yards – 7 Iron) at the Country Club at Wakefield Plantation and October 20 (No. 17 – 138 yards – 8 Iron) at his member club, Wildwood Green Golf Club.
  • Dennis Leisten – April 28 (No. 17, 134 yards – 9 Iron) and November 5 (No. 6 – 140 yards – 8 Iron).  Both were at his member club, Wildwood Green Golf Club.
  • Nancy MacDonald – December 4, 2020 (No. 6 – 80 yards – 8 Iron) and March 5 (No. 2 – 97 yards – 7 Wood).  Both were at the Tiger’s Eye Course at hour home club of Ocean Ridge Plantation.
  • Mark Nordin - May 16 (No 4 – 156 yards – 6 Iron) and August 8 (No 17 – 130 yards – 8 Iron).  Both were at his member club of Wildwood Green Golf Club.
  • Jay Roberts – May 13 (No. 7 – 167 yards – 8 Iron) at member club, Skybrook Golf Club and November 16, 2020 (No. 11 – 145 yards – 9 Iron) at Rolling Hills Country Club.

 

Two couples had holes-in-one during 2021.  Playing together, Rodger and Susan Christiansen, members at Shipyard Golf Club, both had aces on February 28 and the same hole (No. 13 – 119 yards) at Sea Scape Golf Links. Rodger used his 7 Iron and Susan used a 3 Hybrid.

 

Greg Kent January 17 (No. 17 – 151 yards – 6 Iron) and Wendy Kent October 17 (No. 4 – 94 yards – 7 Wedge) both had their aces on the Leopard’s Chase Course at their member club, Ocean Ridge Plantation.

 

Honorable mention goes to George McNabb of Greenville, N.C. for making his June, 2021 hole-in-one on hole No. 5 at his member club, Brook Valley Golf Club.  He previously made holes-in-one on the same course, same hole in May, 2014 and in May, 2011.

 

The Carolinas Golf Association is pleased to announced the winners of the 2021 CGAcer Hole-in-One Club Contest.  CGA members who submitted a hole-in-one application in 2021 and carry a USGA/CGA handicap were eligible. This year’s prizes for the annual drawing for hole-in-one winners include:

  • 1st Place – “Golf in the Carolinas” book and CGA shirt, hat, knit hat, valuables pouch, club head cover, hand warmer, flag, sticker, magnet and pen. 
  • 2nd Place – “Golf in the Carolinas” book and CGA shirt, hat, knit hat, club head cover, hand warmer, flag, sticker, magnet and pen.
  • 3rd Place – “Golf in the Carolinas” book and CGA shirt, hat, knit hat, hand warmer, flag, sticker, magnet and pen.

 

The 2021 CGAcer winners are:

  • 1st – Marcus Martin of Walkertown, N.C. (Member of Carolinas eClub Winston-Salem)
  • 2ndGlenn Cantrell of Anderson, S.C. (Member of The Walker Course at Clemson University)
  • 3rd Jay Roberts of Concord, N.C. (Member of Skybrook Golf Club)

 

 ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN FOR 2022

 

Join the fun!  If you are a CGA member who makes a hole-in-one in 2022, let us know.

 

The CGA will be awarding prizes again for 2022. The random drawing will take place on or before January 30, 2023. All hole-in-one forms must be received at the CGA office no later than January 15, 2023.  The CGAcer hole-in-one form is available on our website and must be completed and submitted for eligibility.  The hole-in-one must be scored from January 1 through December 31, 2022. Your name will be entered for EACH hole-in-one made in 2022.  You must be a current CGA member and carry a USGA/CGA handicap to be eligible. CGA Staff, executive committee members, and their families are ineligible. Prizes will change annually.

 

The CGAcers Hole-in-One program is one of many services offered by the Carolinas Golf Association.
