ARCHDALE, N.C. (July 22, 2025)Jackson Phipps of Raleigh, N.C. claimed victory at the 28th North Carolina Junior Boys’ 14 & Under Championship, posting rounds of 69-70 to finish at 5-under and secure the win at Holly Ridge Golf Links in Archdale, N.C.

Phipps held the overnight lead after an opening round 3-under 69 and needed a steady performance in the final round to hold off a competitive field. He delivered just that, capping off his week with a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to post a two-round total of 5-under 139 and earn his first CGA title.

“My mindset going into today was just trying my best on each shot and worrying about each individual shot as they came,” said Phipps. “I was just trying to stay positive, no matter how the round was going.”

Phipps credited his consistency on the greens and his ball speed for helping him close out the win.

“It was a little different both days,” Phipps explained. “The first day, my putting speed was really good, so I had a lot of tap-in pars and a couple birdies. Today, I drove it well, and the putting speed stayed solid. That helped me keep the momentum.”

Despite early challenges in the final round, including rainy weather conditions, Phipps remained composed under pressure.

“This morning it was pouring on the range - my clubs were soaked,” he said. “And then the first couple holes were rainy and windy but I just had to stay patient. I knew that even good shots might not get rewarded right away, so I kept my focus.”

Jack Weston of Summerfield, N.C. finished in solo second at 4-under 140 total after an impressive final round score of 5-under 67. He surged 11 spots up the leaderboard with five birdies and no bogeys, nearly catching Phipps down the stretch.

Hudson Hurt of Raleigh, N.C. rounded out the top three at 3-under 141 total. Hurt shared the lead after round one with a 3-under 69 and posted an even-par 72 on day two to secure a strong third-place finish.

The Carolinas Golf Association extends its gratitude to the staff at Holly Ridge Golf Links for hosting this year’s championship and to all the players and families for making the event a success. A special thanks to Superintendent James Claybrook, General Manager Nick Cromer, and Academy Director Robert Fube.
