ROCKY MOUNT, N.C - Randall Sullins and Mike Roshelli took home hardware after battling through rain and wind on the final day of the N.C. Super Senior Championship at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
The event was 36 holes and played to a par of 72 each day, with two age divisions for players 65+ and 70+. In the 65+ division, three players shot par or better in round one, and Steve Sharp of Greensboro, N.C. shot 71 and held a one stroke lead over Randall Sullins of Claremont, N.C. and Joey Sadowski of Hickory, N.C.
For round two, the course saw rain in the morning so conditions were wet, and drizzle continued on and off throughout the day. Phil Bland of Sherrills Ford, N.C., Dean Channell of Pinehurst, N.C., and Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. all shot under par in the second round.
Channell posted a tournament-low two-under 70 to jump to a fifth-place finish after shooting 79 in round one.
Sullins was able to navigate the conditions and held off the late challenge from Simson and overtook Sharp with a consecutive even-par rounds to capture the 65+ division crown.
In the 70+ division, Charlie Parks of Asheboro, N.C. and Mark Nordin of Raleigh, N.C. shot 73 and held a one stroke lead over Mike Roshelli of Graham, N.C. after round one.
The morning rain affected the 70+ division directly, as it rained well into the morning wave. Ed Donlin of Concord, N.C. capped his round with a birdie-par finish on the final two holes to record the only round under par in the division.
Roshelli improved on his round one score with three pars and three bogeys to shoot even-par 72 in round two for a score of 146, two-over par and win the 70+ division.
The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank the staff of Benvenue Country Club for hosting a fantastic event, as well as the CGA volunteer rules officials who helped oversee tournament play.
