It was a championship finish worthy of the moment Monday at the 75th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship at Camden Country Club, as Dylan Takenaga and Reece Sanders outlasted Davis Wotnosky and Payton Schmitt in 20 holes to claim the title.

Tied through18 holes, the two sides headed to extra holes where Takenaga and Sanders ultimately sealed the victory on the second playoff hole, capping a run that saw the duo catch fire after advancing to match play as the No. 12 seed.

Takenaga, a high school senior bound for NC State University this fall, and Sanders, a freshman at UNC Greensboro, opened the championship with rounds of 66 (-4) and 65 (-5) in stroke play qualifying to secure their spot in the match play bracket. From there, the pair found another gear, rattling off four consecutive victories to reach the final.

Their march began with a 4-and-3 win over Clay Watkins and Jason Garrett in the Round of 32, followed by a 3-and-2 victory over Brad Sill and Nick Biershenk in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, they defeated James Lightsey and Robert Lutomski, 3 and 2, to set up a semifinal showdown with stroke-play medalists and 2023 champions Jordan Sease and Sam Jackson.

Sease and Jackson, the No. 1 seed after posting rounds of 61 (-9) and 64 (-6) to finish at 15-under-par in qualifying, presented the toughest test yet. Takenaga and Sanders continued their surge, earning a 2-and-1 victory to advance to the championship match.

In the final, Wotnosky and Schmitt proved a formidable side, with neither pairing able to gain separation across 18 holes. The match extended into extra holes before Takenaga and Sanders delivered the decisive blow, securing the championship in 20 holes.

What began as a steady showing in stroke play turned into a dominant run through match play, as Takenaga and Sanders proved to be the side to beat when it mattered most.

The CGA extends its sincere thanks to the staff and members at Camden Country Club for their hospitality and for showcasing an outstanding venue, including General Manager Wayne Watts, Head Superintendent Nick Price, Golf Professionals Matt McCarley and Andrew Stanger, and Food and Beverage Manager Linda Fish.
