WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The Carolinas Team captured the 25th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Team Matches with an 8-4 victory over the Virginia-Maryland Team at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.

The two-day team competition featured eight players representing North and South Carolina against a combined team of five Virginia and three Maryland players. Four four-ball matches were contested Saturday before all eight players faced off in singles matches Sunday, with one point available in each match.

The Carolinas grabbed control of the competition during Saturday’s four-ball matches, earning three of the four available points to take a 3-1 advantage into Sunday.

Ella Spence and Ella June Hannant put the first full point on the board for the Carolinas with a 2 and 1 victory over Kennedy MacCleery and Alexis Danielle Goboy.

The middle two matches both went the distance and finished tied. Landry Hamm and Serra Erlenkeuser earned a half-point against Caitlyn Navaleza and Madeline Navaleza, while Baker Hudson and Kami Caraccia did the same against Claire Son and Malaya Johnson.

AC Peake and Victoria Davis closed out Saturday with another Carolinas victory, defeating Karoline Sweet and Macie Rasmussen, 1 up, to give the team its 3-1 advantage.

Virginia-Maryland struck first Sunday morning when Goboy defeated Davis, 3 and 2, trimming the Carolinas’ overall lead to one point.

Kami Caraccia defeated Son, 4 and 3, before AC Peake earned a 5 and 4 victory over Sweet. Serra Erlenkeuser followed with a 1-up win over Johnson, and Baker Hudson capped the four-match run with a 6 and 5 victory over Caitlyn Navaleza.

With those four consecutive singles victories, the Carolinas had secured the team title.

Landry Hamm added another point with a 5 and 4 victory over Madeline Navaleza to give the Carolinas five wins in Sunday’s eight singles matches.

Virginia-Maryland closed the competition with victories in the final two matches. MacCleery defeated Spence, 3 and 2, while Rasmussen earned a 2 and 1 victory over Hannant, bringing the final score to 8-4.

The Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Team Matches bring together eight of the top junior girls from the Carolinas against eight players representing Virginia and Maryland for two days of team match-play competition.

The Carolinas Golf Association extends its appreciation to the staff and membership of Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, along with the Virginia State Golf Association and Maryland State Golf Association, for helping conduct the 25th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Team Matches.
