Spencer Oxendine, 16, of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Zack Swanson, 18, of Waxhaw, North Carolina finished tied for first at one-under par 69 in the first round of the 5th Creed Junior Boys' Invitational at Camden Country Club in Camden, South Carolina. "I hit the ball off the tee really well, which was the biggest part for me," said Oxendine. "I made some key putts for par and was just hitting the shots when I needed to make them."

Oxendine's game plan was simple, hit the fairway. "Coming in, I said to myself, 'If I just come in and hit the fairway, I am going to shoot under par. If I do what I did today and make more putts, I should be alright."

Swanson started hot on the front nine, finishing three-under which included an eagle on the par-5 seventh. "I hit a great drive and it cut around the trees," said Swanson. "I only had 100 yards in and just put it about four feet from the hole and made the putt. On the back nine, Swanson bogeyed No. 13 and No. 17, but the UNC Charlotte commit is confident going into the final round. "I just have to stick to my game plan and put myself in good spots off the tee, try to hit the center of the green and give myself easy two putts and good chances for birdie."

Walker Jones, 17, of Sumter, South Carolina and Keegan Vaugh, 15, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina sit in a tie for third at even par 70.

Grant Sellers, 18, of McBee, S.C., Tyler Gray, 17, of Lugoff, S.C, Levi Moody, 17, of Greenville, S.C., and Austin Duncan, 17, of Bessemer City, N.C. finished tied for fifth at one-over 71.

The format is 36 holes of stroke play. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer ages 13 to 18 as of May 28, 2017, who has not started college, who has a USGA handicap of 15.0 or lower and is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina.
