The 101st edition of CGA's flagship event, the Carolinas Amateur Championship, will be contested July 9-12 on The Farm Course at Greensboro Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The club made changes to The Farm property, which is located 10 miles from the center of Greensboro and was once home to a dairy farm, since acquiring it in 1969. After meeting with several architects in 2008, the club hired British course architect Donald Steel to bring the Ellis Maples-designed Farm Course into the 21st century. The course reopened in 2010 with five new holes and several more that were reshaped to bring water into play or heighten the course's beautiful vistas.

This will be the sixteenth CGA championship hosted by Greensboro CC and the eighth held at The Farm Course. The 1921 Carolinas Amateur was contested at the club's Irving Park Course. The 2011 North Carolina Amateur, won by Web.com Tour player Harold Varner III, was the most recent CGA championship conducted at The Farm Course.

With a victory at this year's championship, two-time defending champion, Carter Jenkins of Raleigh would join F.M. Laxton (1921-'23) of Charlotte as the only golfers to win the Carolinas Amateur title three consecutive years.

"My goal for the Carolinas Am this year is nothing short of winning," says Jenkins. "That's been the mindset since last year. It would be really cool and quite an accomplishment to have my name on that trophy three times in a row. It's not been done since the 1920's."

In his final days as a teenager, Jenkins will turn 20-years-old two days after the event. Currently the 3rd ranked amateur golfer in the Carolinas, Jenkins claimed his seventh overall CGA title last month, winning the North Carolina Amateur by one stroke over Justin Tereshko of Greensboro, N.C.

The #1 ranked amateur in the Carolinas, 2011 Carolinas Amateur champion Scott Harvey of Greensboro, N.C., will not be in this year's field as he is representing the United States in the Japan Amateur Golf Championship.
