Rainy conditions and light, overcast skies played host to the final round of the 39th Women’s Four-Ball Championship at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls. At the conclusion of play, Gardner-Webb duo Taylor Dodson of Aiken, S.C. and Sarah Bertram of Concord, N.C. clinched the championship by a mere one stroke over three other teams. Among those teams were first round co-leaders Maddisen Cox of Easley, S.C. and Carley Cox of China Grove, N.C., as well as Lea Venable of Simpsonville, S.C. and Mallory Hetzel of Waynesville, N.C. Morgan Cox of Easley, S.C. and Rachel Jones of Asheboro, N.C. also tied for second place, posting the low round of the tournament (34-31--65).

Within their pairing, Dodson and Bertram were what they described as, “Neck-and-neck all day,” with the feisty Cox duo. “Carley and Maddy played really well,” said Dodson. “We responded to them and they responded to us as well.” In a tournament that came down to the wire, the Gardner-Webb teammates appeared to be calm and collected as they played the 18th. “We knew we had to hit a strong drive on 18 and a strong approach shot and that’s exactly what we did,” said Bertram. “The last three holes were a grind but we balanced each other really well. Whenever she hit a bad shot, I hit a good one and vice versa. We stayed positive all day and just had fun with it.”

In the Senior Division, the veteran duo of Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C., took home the hardware, once again, posting a final round 69 to seal the deal and add yet another victory to their already impressive resumes. With a tournament total of 9-under-par 135, Moore and Briele recorded the lowest 36-hole total of the tournament.
