Teams to watch:

  • Nolan Mills III and Robby Kirby of Charlotte, N.C. will pair up again to defend their title at this year's tournament. The pair shot 16-under-par and won by two strokes last year.

  • Russ Perry of Winston Salem, N.C. and Gary Robinson of Fayetteville, N.C. will pair up to each try to capture their second title. While both have won this tournament, they won with different partners. They are both ranked in the top-20 of the senior rankings, and both players will participate in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship later this month.

  • 2006 champions Bill Boles Jr. of Wilson, N.C. and Robert Desjardins of Matthews, N.C. will look to hoist the trophy once again. The pair finished in 14th place last year and will certainly look to improve on the finish this time around.

  • Macon Moye of Pinehurst, N.C. will play alongside Frank Golden of Charlotte, N.C. The pair finished ninth at last year's tournament, but Moye has already captured a CGA title this summer at the N.C. Senior in May and will look to add to his trophy collection.

  • 2016 champion Preston Edmondson of Morrisville, N.C. will pair with Dean Channell of Cary, N.C. in this year's championship. Edmondson is the reigning Carolinas Senior champion and also finished third in last year's championship while Channell finished 10th with their respective partners.

  • Steve Harwell of Mooresville, N.C. will play alongside Patrick Brady of Reidsville, N.C. Harwell is the No. 8 ranked senior men's golfer and is coming off of a win at the CPGA Sandhills Senior Open last month.

Old Chatham Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course set in 400 acres of protected woodlands – a rare sanctuary forever free of real estate development. Native forest separates the fairways, giving a serene feel throughout the course. Old Chatham Golf Club has played host to three CGA championships in the past, and this will be the first time it hosts the North Carolina Senior Four-Ball.

The championship is conducted as 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by August 14, 2018, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club. Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event, by the CGA or the host club. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct or cell phone use during a stipulated round. All players must conform to the “USGA Rules of Amateur Status” as specified in “The Rules of Golf”. For complete residency and eligibility requirements, refer to the CGA Tournament Manual.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
