Evan Long of Charlotte, N.C. has taken the early lead in the Carolinas Super Senior Championship, finishing the first round at 3-under-par, 68.

Long got off to a hot start going 2-under through the front nine. However the back nine brought some challenges. He bogeyed No. 10, but was able to save it with a birdie on No. 12. From there, Long finished strong with birdies on Nos. 15 and 17.

The reigning North Carolina Super Senior Champion has the lead by just one stroke with a stacked leaderboard behind him.

Two-time Carolinas Super Senior Champion, Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. and Ed Donlin of Concord, N.C. have tied for second at 2-under, 69 heading into the final round tomorrow.

“I putted really well. When I didn’t hit the green, I made it up and down,” said Donlin. “I scrambled extremely well today too.”

Dennis Helms of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. shot the only other under-par, opening round in the Championship Division today carding 1-under-par, 70.
