Matthews, N.C. (August 13, 2025) – What started as a rainy, wet Round 1 ended with a beautiful, sunny Round 2 to complete 36-holes of stroke play at the HV3 Queen City Junior where Ella June Hannant (Pikeville, N.C., 2027) and Chase Whittle (Awendaw, S.C., 2027) took home trophies in their respective divisions.
Ninety golfers filled out the field at Emerald Lake Golf Club in Mathews, N.C., where many of them were competing in their final junior tournaments before heading off to their freshman year of college in the coming days.
Round One
Tuesday started with a two-hour delay due to weather and then another delay mid-day while golfers waited for the course to soak up as much standing water as possible.
Gracie Song (Waxhaw, N.C., 2026) separated herself from the crowd shooting 2-under 69 which put her five strokes ahead of Hannant and McKenzie Mueller (Wake Forest, NC, 2028) who both finished 3-over.
On the boys’ side, Noah Yeary (Greensboro, NC, 2026) and Whittle both finished with a 5-under 66 to put them two strokes ahead of Flynn Lewis (Cary, NC, 2026) who finished in third for the day.
Round Two
Following heavy storms overnight there was another two-hour delayed start to the second round with tee times starting at 10 a.m.
Whittle set the pace in the first round with a tie for first place in the Boys' Divison at 5-under 66 and never looked back. He won his division with a 4-under 67 in the second round to finish 9-under 133 total. In second place, Colin McLeod (Lillington, NC, 2028) went 69-66 to finish two behind Whittle and 7-under 135 for the tournament. Yeary finished even par in the second round to take third place.
Ultimately it was Hannant who took home first place in the Girls' Division at the HV3 Queen City Junior by birdieing her first playoff hole against Emery Lewis (Stokesdale, NC, 2027). Hannant finished +4 146 total with scores of 74-72. Lewis took second with scores of 75-71 and Song and Hallie Anne Winters (Gastonia, NC, 2029) tied for third at +5 147 total.
