JEFFERSON, N.C. (June 24, 2026) – Two champions were crowned Wednesday at the 18th Carolinas Super Senior Championship at Jefferson Landing as Steve Fox of Pinehurst, N.C., captured the 70+ Division title and Phil Bland of Sherrills Ford, N.C., claimed the 65+ Division championship.
Fox, the 2022 and 2023 Carolinas Super Senior Player of the Year, rallied in the final round with a tournament-best 4-under-par 68 to finish at 1-over-par 145 (77-68). After opening with a 77 on Tuesday, Fox posted the lowest round of the championship to move into sole possession of the lead.
In the 65+ Division, Bland, part of the 2025 N.C. Super Senior Four-Ball Championship winning side, finished at 3-under-par 141 (71-70) to earn a one-shot victory over part of the 2025 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship winning side and six-time CGA Champion, Rick Cloninger of Rock Hill, S.C. Bland entered the final round one shot behind Daran Womack of Aiken, S.C., who opened the championship with a 2-under-par 70.
vThe 70+ Division tightened early in the final round after first-round leader John Long of Murrells Inlet, S.C., gave shots back on the front nine. Long, Lennie Barton of Raleigh, N.C., and John Fritz of Mint Hill, N.C., were all in contention, while Fox and Garry Moore of Wilkesboro, N.C., made late charges.
Fox birdied Nos. 11, 12, 15 and 16, including a chip-in birdie on No. 12 that helped spark his comeback. Moore made a late push and needed a birdie on No. 18 to force a playoff but narrowly missed, leaving Fox alone atop the leaderboard.
"I putted much better today," Fox said. "I had five three-putts yesterday, only one three-putt today. I got a fortunate break on 12, I chipped in there. Got me going there. I birdied 11, 12, 15 and 16. I just putted better."
In the 65+ Division, Bland took control on the back nine with one of the strongest stretches of the championship, birdieing Nos. 11-15 to climb the leaderboard. After a double bogey on No. 16 and a bogey on No. 17, Bland entered the final hole with enough cushion to secure the title. Playing in the final group, he knew he only needed to avoid a double bogey on No. 18, and a closing bogey was enough to seal the championship.
"I looked at the turn, and I think I was either one down or even," Bland said. "Then I birdied five in a row. I birdied 11 through 15. After that, I didn't look, but I knew I was doing pretty good."
Bland credited his putting as the difference in his championship performance.
"That's an easy one, putting," Bland said. "Normally, that's where I struggle. Hitting the ball is usually pretty consistent, but today my putting, especially, was good."
Both champions will return to action at the upcoming Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship at Greenville Country Club. Bland will look to defend the title he won with his partner last year, while Fox is also scheduled to compete.
The Carolinas Super Senior Championship crowns the top amateur golfers in the Carolinas ages 65 and older. The championship is conducted over 36 holes of stroke play, with competitors playing in either the 65+ or 70+ division.
The Carolinas Golf Association extends its appreciation to the staff and membership of Jefferson Landing for their hospitality and support throughout the championship.
