When this championship was last held at Pine Needles in 1992, Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. won with Terrie Foote of Mooresville, N.C. Moore will be competing this year with Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. The duo is defending their victory last year in the Senior Division. Moore has won the overall Carolinas Women's Four-Ball title five times. Briele is also a past champion, winning in 2001. While they are not eligible for the overall championship, CGA Senior Women's Player of the Year points will be awarded to teams in the senior division.

42 two-person teams will compete in the 40th edition of the championship. Gardner-Webb teammates Taylor Dodson of Aiken, S.C. and Sarah Bertram of Concord, N.C. return to defend their title. Two-time champion Lea Venable of Simpsonville, S.C., is in the field with a different partner, Kayla Thompson of Whiteville, N.C.

The championship is conducted at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. All players regardless of Handicap Index have the option to play the Championship Division or the Senior Division (approximately 5100 yards). The Senior Division will be comprised of teams in which both players have reached their 50th birthday by the start of the championship.

The overall champion team and the senior champion team will automatically qualify for the 2017 Carolinas Team that will compete in the Carolinas-Virginias Women's Team Matches on July 17-19, 2017 at Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville, VA.

This competition will include gross scores only. Only players in the Championship Division will be eligible for overall champion. Teams will be preflighted within their division based on the combined team Handicap Index.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
