Kuehn Repeats, Moore Takes Inaugural Super Senior

 

 

19th N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship

Oak Valley Golf Club was in excellent condition as we played the 19th N.C. Senior Women's Amateur Championship and the Inaugural N.C. Super Senior Women's Amateur Championship. Both days were windy, challenging the players as they competed for the respected trophies.

ADVANCE, N.C. — Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, N.C., took home the trophy of the 19th N.C. Senior Women's Amateur Championship today at Oak Valley Golf Club. Brenda took the top of the leaderboard with scores of 67-76 for a total score of 143. Brenda played a very impressive first round by carding seven birdies to shoot 5-under-par. "I putted very well the first day," Brenda notes, and during the final round, she was able to keep it in play to stay at the top of the leaderboard.

 

Brenda is the #7 ranked senior woman in the Carolinas and is now a 9-time CGA champion. Brenda was the Defending Champion heading into this year's tournament, and she said, "it's always great to win a CGA championship. For North Carolina and South Carolina, CGA is the elite golf, so it's an honor to win it".

 

Coming in second place was Judy Penman of Pinehurst, N.C., with two consistent rounds of 74 to shoot 148 total. Toni Notaro, also from Pinehurst, N.C., came in third place with a total score of 150. Hui Chong Dofflemyer of Pikeville, N.C., had a notable jump up the leaderboard seven places after posting a 72 during the final round for a total score of 154. 

 

 

1st N.C. Super Senior Women's Amateur Championship

 

ADVANCE, N.C. — In its inaugural year, Patty Moore of Pinehurst, N.C., won the first N.C. Super Senior Women's Amateur Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Oak Valley Golf Club, 69-70. This CGA title marks Moore's 24th CGA win, as she is the winningest woman in CGA history. 

 

Moore entered the final round three-under-par, recording five birdies and two bogies in the first round. Also, in the final group, Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C., started the final round in second at even par with Kathy Binkley of Cornelius, N.C., in third at four-over-par.

 

Moore is the 5th ranked senior woman in the Carolinas. "I'm making a little bit of history today winning the inaugural just like how I won the inaugural Senior Championship," said Moore when asked what this win means to her. 

 

In addition to Moore's inaugural win at the N.C. Super Senior Women's Championship, Moore was also the inaugural winner of the N.C. Senior Women's Championship 19 years ago. 

 

In second, Brogden finished 2-over-par, 72-74, after shooting two-over in the final round. Binkley took the sole possession of third place, finishing eight-over-par, as Robin Gallagher of Hillsborough, N.C., and Bonnie Montgomery of Jamestown, N.C., tied for fourth with a score of eleven-over-par.
