Colby Hutchens of Pinehurst, N.C., captured the 11th Carolinian Amateur Championship on Sunday at Keith Hills Golf Club, firing rounds of 72-68-67 for a 9-under-par total of 207 and a two-shot win over Peter Bowie of Asheville, N.C.
The victory marks Hutchens’ second CGA championship title after winning the 2024 Jimmy Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational at Camden Country Club. Hutchens closed the championship with a final-round 67 to separate himself from a tightly packed leaderboard and secure the title.
Hutchens credited a busy stretch of collegiate competition for helping sharpen his game heading into the summer season.
“It’s just kept me in shape,” Hutchens said. “I feel like I have been playing golf nonstop the last few months, and now I am getting back on some golf courses I am more comfortable with and know a little better, and I think it makes it a little easier and more comfortable.”
Bowie finished solo second at 7-under-par 209 after rounds of 70-72-67, matching Hutchens with one of the low rounds of the final day.
Reigning Carolinas Junior Amateur champion Owen Kinnunen of Taylors, S.C., finished solo third at 6-under-par 210 following rounds of 73-68-69. Kinnunen surged into contention with a second-round 68 and remained in the hunt throughout Sunday’s final round.
Thomas Campbell of Chapin, S.C., posted the low round of the championship on Sunday, carding a tournament-best 64 to climb 26 spots up the leaderboard and finish fourth at 5-under-par 211.
A six-way tie for fifth place finished at 3-under-par 213. Casey Kosney of Spartanburg, S.C. (73-72-68), 2024 Carolinian Amateur Champion, Michael Snyder of Lillington, N.C. (69-75-69), Gabriel Ansley of Archer Lodge, N.C. (73-70-70), Kyle Kushnir of Raleigh, N.C. (69-73-71), Cameron Harvey of Kernersville, N.C. (71-71-71), and 2026 Carolinas Four-Ball Champion, Dylan Takenaga of Durham, N.C. (69-72-72) all shared the position.
The Carolinas Golf Association extends its appreciation to the staff and membership of Keith Hills Golf Club for their support and hospitality throughout the week. Special thanks to Director of Golf Martha Sutton, Superintendent Josh Stephenson and the entire Keith Hills team for helping host the 11th Carolinian Amateur Championship.
