CAMDEN, S.C. (September 15, 2025) - Will Ruth of Moore, S.C. outplayed 95 of the Carolinas’ best junior boys to capture the 13th Creed Boys' Invitational at Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.
Camden Country Club played to a par of 70 for the 54-hole event. The course was designed by Donald Ross, and hosts undulating greens and unforgiving waste areas outside of the rough.
The course was no match for Ruth who shot 1-under, 209 through 54 holes to record the only 54-hole score under par of the weekend.
The tournament featured 36 holes on Saturday after a shotgun start and 18 holes on Sunday, to simulate a college-level tournament for the young players. Davis Petty of Spartanburg, S.C. and Spencer Mills of Wilmington, N.C. both shot low in the first 18 holes, recording 2-under, 68 and 1-under, 69 respectively. Ruth shot even-par 70.
No player that shot under par in round one repeated the success in round two. However, more players shot under par in the second round than in the first.
Jamen Sanders of Goose Creek, S.C. shot the low 18-hole score of the tournament with a 4-under, 66, followed by Bennett Scaletta of Belton, S.C. and Taft Courie who shot 3-under 67 each to jump up the leaderboard into the top five. Ruth shot 2-under, 68 to take the solo lead after 36 holes, recording four birdies in his last 10 holes.
“I was like just stay in the moment as much as I can and don’t stress it, just be out here and have fun,” Ruth said. “That was the goal this week since this is my last Creed.”
Round three saw more leaderboard shakeups. Charlie Horne of Fayetteville, N.C. jumped into a chase for the lead after shooting 2-under on the first nine holes, and was two strokes behind Ruth heading into the final stretch of the tournament.
Both players recorded a birdie on No. 12, but Horne recorded bogeys on Nos. 15 and 16 to fall back.
Horne shot a final round 2-under, 68 and was the only player in the field to shoot two consecutive rounds under par, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Ruth’s lead. Ruth shot 1-over, 71 to retain his lead and capture his first CGA title.
“Camden was my first ever junior golf tournament and it didn’t go the way I wanted it to,” Ruth said. “Now it’s a great way to leave it, it’s pretty special.”
The CGA would like to thank the staff and membership at Camden Country Club for their outstanding hospitality and support throughout the 13th Jimmy Creed Boys’ Invitational.
