Kuehn Carries Leads into Final Round

 

Rock Hill, SC--Fourteen year old Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, NC sits atop the leader board after 36-holes in the 59th Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship at Rock Hill CC in Rock Hill, SC.  Kuehn, a rising high school freshman, shot a second round of even par 72 and has a two day total of two over par 146.  "I started off getting up and down on three of my first four hole and I birdied number two, so that was good start for me" stated Kuehn.  A birdie on the par five seventh hole put her at even par for the tournament, but a bogey on the tough par 4 eighth hole moved her back to one over as she made the turn to the back side.  Kuehn bogeyed the par four tenth hole, but then reeled off six straight pars before she birdied the par three seventeenth hole.  A par of the final hole finished off her round of even par 72.

 

Top ranked SC player Ashely Czarnecki of Greenville, SC had the hot round of the day finishing with a four under par 68.  Czarnecki, who also holds the SC Junior (stroke play) and the SC Junior Match Play titles is looking to take home her third major victory in the Carolinas junior golf season.  Twin States champion Kathleen Sumner of Charleston, SC is two shots back of Kuehn at 147 after back to back rounds of 74.  First round leader Madison Moosa of Charlotte is tied with Sumner for third place.  In the sub-junior division, Mary Talledo of Blythewood, SC is in first place with an 18 hole total of 87.
