Preview: 11th Jimmy Anderson Girls' Junior Invitational

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (October 1, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 11th Jimmy Anderson Girls’ Junior Invitational at Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, N.C. from October 3 - 4, 2020. The field will compete at 5,969 yards. (35-37--72) (74.9/126)

Players to Watch:

• Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. has shown out this summer placing in the top-10 of every event she has played in with only one exception. Anderson most notably won the WSCGA Junior Girls’ State Championship and finished runner-up at the S.C. Junior Match Play and Mimosa Hills Junior. She is the top-ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.
   

• Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. was a runner-up in this event last year. Since then she has won the Mimosa Hills Junior, finished runner-up at the Carolinas-Georgia Junior and tied for third at AJGA’s Visit Fayetteville. Atwood is the No. 6 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.
   

• Isabella Britt of Chesnee, S.C. started her summer with a big win at the Upstate Open. Britt followed that with a tie for third at the WSCGA Junior Girls’ State Championship and tied for second in her last start at the Harvey Brock Orange Jacket Classic. She holds the No. 7 rank in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.
   

• Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. is the reigning N.C. Junior Girls’ Champion. Ketchum is also one of the 2020 Carolinas Women’s Amateur runner-ups and tied for third at the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship. She is the No. 10 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.
   

• Karlee Vardas of Lexington, S.C. has won four events in the last year including the Palmetto Preview, the Trojan Invitational, the Lady Patriot Invitational and the 5A State Championship. Vardas is the No. 9 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.
   

• Macie Burcham of Greensboro, N.C. is the reigning TYGA State champion and North Carolina Series at Bryan Park winner. She also won the TYGA Triad One-Day at Jamestown Golf Club.
   

• Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. has had 12 top-10 finishes in the last year including an impressive run at the S.C. Junior Match Play finishing as a Semifinalist and wins at The Jack and the 3A Upper State.
   

• Emerson B. Dever of Durham, N.C. recently captured the TYGA Tournament of Champions, after winning the TYGA N.C. Middle School in June. Dever has had an outstanding 20 top-10 finishes in the last year out of her 26 starts.
   

• Paris Fieldings of Suffolk, Va. won the PKBGT Terrapin Classic in August and tied for sixth in this event last year.
   

This annual junior tournament was started in 2009 by the alumni of the Jacksonville Country Club junior golf program to honor their longtime teacher and friend Mr. Jimmy Anderson. Anderson was the head golf professional at Jacksonville Country Club for over 25 years. Each Saturday morning, he conducted a junior golf clinic to help spread the game of golf to the next generation. During his tenure at Jacksonville Country Club, he taught many juniors including Mallory Miller, the 1987 N.C. Junior Champion and numerous future collegiate and golf professionals. Not only did he teach the game of golf, but he was always there with a helpful word of encouragement to any young golfer. The tournament began as a boys and girls tournament, but due to the success of the event, the girls have been given their own tournament that is conducted each fall.

 

The championship is contested at 36 holes of stroke play.

 

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer 12 to 18 years of age as of October 4, 2020, who has not started college (class of 2021 and higher) and who has a current USGA handicap of 15.0 or lower.
