Carolinas Women Defeat Virginias, 58.5-22.5, for Eighth Straight Team Matches Victory

 

DANIELS, W.Va. (July 6-7, 2026) – The Carolinas Women's Team continued its recent dominance in the Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches, defeating the Virginias, 58.5-22.5, at Glade Springs Resort to capture its eighth consecutive title.

The annual Ryder Cup-style competition featured 18-player teams representing the Carolinas and the Virginias. Monday's competition consisted of Four-Ball and Modified Alternate Shot matches before concluding Tuesday with Singles matches.

The Carolinas built an early advantage on Monday, winning the opening day 18-9. The team claimed six of the nine Four-Ball matches and followed with another strong showing in Modified Alternate Shot, taking six matches while halving another to carry a commanding nine-point lead into the final day.

Needing only 23 points on Tuesday to secure the cup, the Carolinas left little doubt during Singles play. The team earned 40.5 of the 54 points available, winning 13 individual matches while halving three others.

Several Carolinas players went undefeated throughout the competition. In the Open Division, Sara Adams (Burlington, N.C.), Jillian Fatkin (Wake Forest, N.C.), Ona Lukes (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Nicole Nash (Charlotte, N.C.) each posted perfect records. In the Senior Division, Julie Streng (Pinehurst, N.C.), Kimbra Benson (Greenville, N.C.), Beth Magera (Mooresville, N.C.) and Robin Gallagher (Charlotte, N.C.) also finished unbeaten.

The Carolinas also received strong contributions from Pam Prescott (Piedmont, S.C.), Toni Notaro (Denver, N.C.), Lea Venable (Simpsonville, S.C.), Leah Edwards (Greensboro, N.C.), Haley Paramore (Spartanburg, S.C.), Lexi Bennett (Greenville, S.C.), Judy Penman (Southern Pines, N.C.), Colleen Shepard (Greensboro, N.C.), Kasey McIlvaine (Raleigh, N.C.) and Stefanie Diaz (Durham, N.C.).

Carolinas co-captains Pam Prescott and Katie Kirk Flaskerud guided the team to its eighth consecutive victory in the historic matches, which date back to 1958 and annually showcase many of the top amateur women golfers from both associations.
