Grace Massengill Leads 7th Carolinas Junior Girls 15 and Under Championship

Whispering Pines, NC – First round results of the 7th Carolinas Junior Girls 15 & Under Championship hosted by the Country Club of Whispering Pines on Monday, July 8, 2013. 

14-year-old Grace Massengill of Hickory, NC fires a four over par round of 76 to take the first round lead by six shots over Taylor Hinson of Belmont, NC.  Massengill carded two birdies for the day on the challenging Ellis Maples design.

In the junior division, defending champion, 12-year-old Anna McDonald also of Hickory, NC, shot a four-over 76 and holds a nine shot lead over 12-year old Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, NC.  This division plays a shorter course.

Leading the sub-junior division is Carmen Tucker of Fayetteville, NC over Mary Kate Smith of Charlotte, NC.  This division plays only 9 holes each day.

All players will begin at 8:30am in a shot-gun start. 

This championship was started by the Women’s Carolinas Golf Association seven years ago to assist girls in getting acclimated to tournament golf.  The Carolinas Golf Association assumed responsibility for this championship after the Women’s Carolinas Golf Association dissolved in July 2012.  This is one of seven championships run specifically for girls by the Carolinas Golf Association annually.
